| Common Questions and Answers | What you always wanted to know about Murals - Please read! |
| Why chosing a mural? What are the advantages? | A Mural on Canvas may better suit your needs. They can be less expensive, are painted off-site, can be hung as wallpaper or mounted onto an oversized frame. |
| Is it better to get more bids? Does anyone else find it frustrating to price out a mural project? |
It might be but if you feel comfortable with the artist in the first place, why contacting others? Of course you can contact 3 different mural painter and get 3 different quotes. Let me assure you, every artist will try his best, and you will get 3 completely different approaches and looks. One criteria is very important: Be sure you like the work of who your hiring and that you can communicate easily about what you like and want. The muralist should understand your needs. Oh yes. This is very common because it is not easy. I am a experienced muralist since more than 12 years and I started in Europe where high quality was demanded, therefor the prices were higher. Still here in the US, I deliver the same quality for a very competitive price. If you hire someone who will charge you a couple of hundreds dollars less, it does not mean that he will deliver this quality and duplication of your ideas. The main thing is it has to fit into your budget and the mural has to have a certain value for you too. People who appreciate Art find is easier to pay more than someone who just wants "some art" on the walls so it looks not so dull. |
| I want a specific theme, eg. a "Jungle Theme"for my nursery. How much will that cost? | In this case I would need to know some details, and would ask you these questions: - How big is your room? - How many walls do you want painted? Top to Bottom? - What is on the walls now? What color? - What kind of background do you want? - What Animals do you liket? Lifelike or Animated, cartoonish? - How big should the animals be and how many? - Do you have any pictures or designs you could send or show? |
| I have a budget of $300 to spend for the kid's room. I like the idea of a beach. Can you do that? |
Of course, this is possible.. A small budget does not mean it is impossible, and in fact it is a smart way to approach a project. This way we can work to get the look you're wanting and not have a "sticker-shock". I also will give you some choices of what you can do within this budget frame. |
| Are there any hidden fees? | No. The final design is the basis for the estimate. Most of my estimates are including all costs and expenses. There won't be any "bad surprises". |
| How do I know if you're charging a fair price? | Most people speak this out aloud, and if you are finding it difficult to rely on just one opinion, get more bids or estimates. But please, if you want to spent only $200 for a detailled mural, keep in mind that every muralist you are asking to come by will spent his valuable time first and it is just fair that you tell them beforehand about your budget. I believe that if someone's prices are super high, they're not working very many projects, because they aren't competitive. As for me, I'm usually booking projects 3-6 weeks out. You have to decide for yourself. Also, since you know my price ranges, you'll find I don't try to take advantage of clients living in pricer areas. Sounds rude, but it does happen. |
Here are some samples of murals and the prices so you can compare: ![]() Bird's Nest with flowers - $300 Faux finished ceiling, French gold, copper ornaments - $1500 |
![]() Tropical Mural, very detailed, with flowers and many trees - $3000 Vines around the door - $800 |
![]() Antique Flowers on a faux finish background - $1600 |
![]() Kids Mural Panda Dreams - one wall $750 |
Ceiling only: $450 - one wall only: $750 |
* All mentioned prices can change. They are based on ideal painting conditions.; they don't include painting the background. Fixing up the walls putting on the background color is additional; we can recommend a painter if you don't have one. ** Ceilings are pricier because of their awkwardness. Low VOC paint or "Green" murals are available. Because this type of paint generally offers poor coverage at a much higher price, project pricing is higher. Also, any tints a paint store adds to paints will contain VOC's. Once dry, there is no air quality/health difference between a low VOC paint and a typical latex paint. No paints made in the USA contain lead. I am only using high quality acrylics paint for professional usage.
